Hello, my friends and welcome to
another Open Mike Cafe. I am your host, Mike Stephens, bringing you
the best in independent music since 2005.
I began this show at the prompting of
my good friend Daniel J. Harris of The
Soupy Gato Show as a way to help promote struggling songwriters
looking for a place where their music would be heard, and I'm happy
to report that they are getting heard. All over the world, in
fact. We have listeners now on every continent. (Well, maybe not
Antarctica, though I like to imagine some penguin there walking
through the snow drifts with his headphones on, be-bopping to the
show.)
We've come a long way since those
early days, drawing the attention of folks like Pam Tillis, Suzy
Bogguss and Antsy McClain as well as some top industry people -
recording studios, record producers, top publicists.
And I'm always looking for other ways
to promote the artists we play regularly. In October 2007, I
produced the first Open Mike
Cafe Artists CD with 18 great songs from different
singer/songwriters who have been featured on the show. (All the
profits from this go to help Antsy McClain's charity Flamingoheads
with Heart and I'll be producing more of these in the future, so
stay tuned.)
